Rules for Success
Classroom DOJO
Our class will be using classroom DOJO this year. Students can earn positive points for positive behaviors and they will get negative points for negative behaviors. Parents will get a sign up code and will be able to see their child points and information. Parents can also message through classroom DOJO. I will respond to messages from parents at the end of the school day.
Tiger Tickets
Students will receive Tiger Tickets based on their DOJO points each week. Students will have opportunities to spend their Tiger Tickets at the Tiger Store.
Attendance Reward
It has been proven that good school attendance positively impacts a students learning. If a student is tardy or absent they are missing important instruction. Students who have perfect attendance each week will receive a reward on Friday. Students who have perfect attendance each month will receive a treat at the end of the month. Students will also receive positive DOJO points for attendance.
Grading Scale
Grades are based on student understanding of concepts taught and assessments for those concepts.
A – 90 – 100 Student understands all concepts
B - 80 – 89 Student understands most concepts
C - 70 – 79 Student has a basic understanding of concepts
D – 60 – 69 Student understands some concepts
F - 0 – 59 Student has little or no understanding of concepts
Water Bottles
Students can bring a water bottle to school to keep on their desk. The water bottle must be clear and only have water in it. Please put your child’s name on the water bottle. Please do not freeze the bottle. This causes wet desks and wet papers. Students can fill the bottle here before school and at lunch time.

Homework
Reading
- Each night students are expected to write a summary of the section of the book they read for homework.
- Each student is expected to read for 20 minutes each night, Monday - Thursday. They will need about 10 minutes to write their summary so they will have about 30 minutes of total reading time.
- Students may choose the book they wish to read. Students are strongly encouraged to read books that are on their level (just right books). This means students are not to read books that are too easy or too hard for homework. Students are welcome to read fiction or non-fiction. I will also be encouraging students to finish the books they start.
- I encourage you to listen to your child read for at least 5 minutes each night. This will help you be aware of any problems they are having. Also, asking students to tell you about what they read helps to see if they really understand what they are reading.
- Parents are expected to initial the reading log each night.
- Math homework will consist of basic skills review at the beginning of the year and progress into practice of taught material as the year progresses. I will only send home work I believe the student can do. Students must try to do their homework and must show their work. Parents are welcome to help the students but please let the students do the work first, and then check behind them. If you find mistakes, please work with them to correct their mistakes. Do not do the work for the student and do not write it for them. You will notice that as the year progresses I add homework from earlier in the year. This is called “spiraling” and is done so the students do not forget what they learned earlier in the year.
- Spelling will be assigned each week once spelling groups and guidelines have been established in the classroom. Spelling homework should start in late September.
Vocabulary
- As the year progresses vocabulary review will be sent home as part of homework. This homework will be sent as needed for test preparation.
